Please join us on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at Drexel University to hear recent chemical engineering graduates and the co-founders of Ocular Technologies, Russel Walters and Alex Kinnier, discuss their work in launching their own company. It was just five years ago, the night before graduating from Lehigh University, when these two young men brainstormed their innovative ideas that would develop into the technology behind Ocular Technologies. Their first product is a novel logo for drinking glasses. There’s one small catch- the logos are actually invisible until a cold drink is poured into the glass: Walters and Kinnier will be joined by the vice-president of operations for Ocular Technologies, Mr. Matt Hamilton. The three business partners will also talk about the challenges they surmounted in developing their business almost two years ago while holding other full-time endeavors. Mr. Walters is enrolled in a five-year Ph.D. program in chemical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania where he met Mr. Hamilton who is the Director of Industrial Relations. Mr. Kinnier, who previously had worked for Proctor & Gamble, is now pursuing an MBA at Harvard Business School. To learn more about Ocular Technologies, please see www.ocular-technologies.com. The annual Student Awards Banquet, which has been an annual event for the AIChE-DVS since the 1950s, will also be held at the event. In continuing that tradition, we will recognize the top chemical engineering students from area universities: Drexel, Pennsylvania, Rowan, Villanova, and Widener. This year’s event will be hosted by the chemical engineering students and faculty of Drexel University. Two different awards will be given at the Banquet – the Zeisberg Awards and the Top Student of the Year Awards. The Zeisberg awards are given for the best technical paper and the best laboratory report submitted from undergraduate chemical engineering students from the above five schools. The two winners will each receive $250 per award that is provided from an endowment established in 1970. The second set of awards is the Top Student of the Year Awards. These awards are given to the top sophomore, junior, and senior at each school. Each student will receive a certificate of award and a complimentary dinner at the event |
