Gennaro J. (Jerry) Maffia
After
nearly twenty years in industry with multi-national corporations, Dr.
Maffia joined
Widener
University
as Chairman of the
Department of Chemical Engineering in the fall of 1992. Current research
interests include the development of technologies based on the water
retention properties of unraveled bovine hide collagen. Academic interests
include independent study and research projects that
involve government agencies, foundations, industry and other universities.
In 2003, Dr. Maffia received the Lindback Award for excellence in
teaching, the Zandi Award for contributions to environmental research, and
a Charles Lindbergh Grant for promoting the balance between technology and
nature. Dr. Maffia is also an active consultant in the chemical and
bioprocessing industries and volunteers for several professional and civic
organizations.
