John
Vanore has enjoyed a concurrent career as Artist/Educator. Mr. Vanore has
been Widener's Director of Music since 1975, and architect of Widener’s
music program for non-majors. He
has been a guest conductor for Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware
state musical ensembles and a frequent lecturer at music conventions.
He has given improvisation and performance workshops to teachers
and students throughout the region . As
a trumpeter, Mr. Vanore has toured as a soloist with the Woody Herman
Orchestra and accompanied such notable entertainers as Tony Bennett, Sammy
Davis, Nancy Wilson, Mel Torme, Michel LeGrand, and others.
In the 90's John led his jazz group, Abstract Truth, to national
acclaim with his compositions for this uniquely instrumented group.
His CD's "Blue Route" and "Curiosity" were
chosen in Downbeat Magazine’s Jazz Album of the Year category in the
years of their release as well as Mr. Vanore receiving recognition in the
Composer of the Year category. As a
member of NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) John
participates yearly in the nomination and voting of the Grammy Awards.
John has received a Gold Record for his production of Michael
Crawford's "On Eagles Wings" and has produced recordings for
Angel/ EMI Records, Windham Hill, Atlantic, PBS, and
Miramax films, featuring members of the Philadelphia Orchestra,
Orchestra of St. Luke, Minnesota Symphony, St. Olaf Choir, The American
Boychoir and others. |
