Valero (Premcor) Refinery Tour
Sponsored by ACS Delaware Section

Andrew Kenner

Andrew Kenner, Vice President and General Manager of Valero's Houston refinery, will relocate to Delaware to become the Vice President and General Manager of the Delaware City Refinery. Based on his extensive refinery operations experience, leadership qualities and great interpersonal skills, he is well suited to lead the refinery.

Andrew holds a Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

He began his career in the aerospace engineering field, and then made the switch to the refining industry in 1989 when he joined Diamond Shamrock (which later became Ultramar Diamond Shamrock) at the company's Three Rivers Refinery as a Project Engineer. He led several major engineering projects to support the refinery's growth and efficiency. In 1995, he was promoted to Process Safety Management (PSM) Manager and helped expedite the refinery's PSM compliance efforts. By 1996 he was promoted again to Complex Manager, and in 2000 he became the plant's Director of Operations. Throughout his years in Three Rivers, Andrew not only helped the refinery achieve outstanding operating reliability and results, but also helped develop safety programs and a strong safety culture that has helped the refinery achieve recognition as one of the nation's safest refineries.

Valero acquired UDS in 2001, and based on Andrew's success and leadership in Three Rivers, the company promoted him to Director of Operations at the company's flagship Texas City Refinery. Andrew helped lead the Texas City Refinery's growth and was instrumental in the start-up of several major units, including a coker, gasoline desulfurization unit and liquids recovery unit. Just one year later he was promoted again, this time to Vice President and General Manager of Valero's Houston refinery, and as he did in Three Rivers and Texas City, he has made numerous contributions to the plant's improved operations in a short time. Under his leadership, the plant is on pace to achieve record throughput and record operating income this year, and the plant's total recordable injury rate is nearly twice as good as it was in 2004.

So as you can see, Andrew will be a great fit for the Delaware City Refinery, and he will support Valero's goal of delivering even better operating results at the plant, while meeting the company's standards for safe and environmentally sound operations and being a good neighbor in the community.

Andrew and his wife, Jennifer, have a son (Noah, age 8) and a daughter (Rachel, age 4).
